Terpsichore was perhaps the first "fake" book, a collection of tunes that everyone who played dances needed to know. Rather than Moon River and The Tennessee Waltz, it contained Gavottes, Courantes, Alemandes and other dances of the day. Some of the tunes were by Praetorius, who published the collection of 312 tunes in 1612, but others were credited to other composers or no one at all, like this courante. There more than 100 courantes, so I hear the conductor calling out, "Courante 183, guys, let's go. Ah one, ah two....
